Three foreigners to be sent to court over robbery of $110K
Three Chinese men are scheduled to be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court tomorrow after they were arrested for robbing their countryman out of more than $110,000 in Phnom Penh.
Colonel Mom Chek, penal police officer with the Interior Ministry’s Penal Department, identified the three Chinese suspects as Shan Shiquan, Wei Bingwen, and Zeng Meng. They are Chinese tourists.
Col Chek said that at about 9pm on April 30, the trio who posed as construction engineers, drove a car to buy construction materials from a Chinese businessman, 45, selling construction material living in Capital’s Boeng Keng Kang district.
He said that on that night, after they entered the victim’s rental house, they caught and beat him.
“After beating the victim, they took away more than $110,000, five luxury phones and other valuable items,” he said.
“They fled to Siem Reap province,” Col Chek said.
Upon their arrival in Siem Reap province, they parked their car at a parking area in Siem Reap city and attempted to flee to Thailand via the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, Col Chek said.
He said that after arriving at Poipet city, the trio could not get into Thailand due to border closures amid coronavirus pandemic and then they went back to Siem Reap city.
He added that at about 2pm on Monday, they were arrested in Siem Reap city after they attempted to take their car from a parking lot in the city.
He said that now the trio is detained at the Interior Ministry in Phnom Penh for further questioning and they will be sent to Phnom Penh Municipality Court tomorrow.
